EK Collection (6 pieces) – are they real?

    Hi everyone,

I’ve acquired these pieces over the past several years but am fairly new to the forum and wanted to get everyone’s opinion. I tried my best to make sure they were legit when I bought them but the more I learn, the more I realize I don't know. The two pieces I’m most suspect of (not that the others are a guarantee) are the spanges (more details below). Sorry if there are too many pictures / descriptions but I wanted to share as much detail as possible.

Any and all opinions are welcome – thanks for the time!
    Mills

    WWI Pieces:
EK 1 – no maker mark I can see; black core does wiggle within metal frame
EK 2 (with box) – ring is stamped 800; black core does wiggle within metal frame. To me the box looks good, only thing slightly suspect is that the hinge looks shiny. Rest of box looks properly aged. The back of box has something stamped on that I can’t make out.

    WWII Pieces:
EK 1 (with box) – marked L59; black core does wiggle within metal frame
EK 2 - no maker mark; black core does wiggle within metal frame

    Spanges:
EK 1 (with case) - I’ve always thought it was legit but I realize they are highly faked. The more I look at the box, I have some slight concern just b/c it looks to be in such mint condition. Back of the spange is stamped L21. Another thing I noticed is that the trapezoid on the box is concave while the trapezoid on the spange itself is straight. The area around the catch on the back is also shinier than the rest of the back…not sure if that is an area of concern or not. The person I bought from is extremely honest but they could have been fooled themselves.
EK2– I bought it cheap and knew it was a gamble

                  spange

The EKI spange marked L21 is a Floch fake. The case could be a very hard to find EKI spange case for the first model (post in the envelope and case forum to be sure). The EKII spange looks like a Deumer, but clearer pictures required and close up. Jim

Could we also post them the right way up. My monitor is too heavy to turn on it's side and I'm too old to be putting my neck out.

The case to the 1st Classic Spange, if authentic, would be worry a nice brunch of Euro.

But do as already suggested, put it up for discussion in the case and packet part of the forum

                          Hi Mills,
                          From your list:

                          WWI Pieces:
EK 1 – good but missing a disc for the reverse
EK 2 (with box) – both good

                          WWII Pieces:
EK 1 (with box) – both good
EK 2 - better photos needed

                          Spanges:
EK 1 (with case) - fake Spange, good case
                          EK2– - better photos needed
                          Best regards,
                          Streptile

Looking for ROUND BUTTON 1939 EK1 Spange cases (LDO or PKZ)

Thanks everyone for the greetings and especially for the information! It stinks that the EK1 Spange is bogus but good news that both EK1s and WW1 EK2 ( with respective boxes) look good. I am out of town till Sunday but will post more close-ups of the WW2 EK2 and the EK2 Spange then. I also posted the Spange box in the Cases and packet forum: http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...35#post6171535

For educational purposes, how do we know the Spange is bad? I'm not arguing the fact (especially since its a common consensus) but would like to know so I don't make the same mistake again? Also, was this a dumb / rookie mistake or is this a fairly legit fake? Just want to know how hard I should kick myself.

                            Thanks again!

the EK1 spange is a known fake, you can find it in the books, it flooded the marked decades ago, it's the so called "austrian fake"
I agree with opinions of the guys, the EK1 spange 1st type case is good and rare, the pictures of the spange EK2 are not so clear
