for what purpose?

I think its the same container element that you see on this picture of a Mischlast Abwurfbehälter 250 (kg) drop container. This container element was for supplies.

This element is for all, amunitions, letters, rarely food. I know that by old kampfers in Alsace.

Hi There are two type by the "shape":
- "straight" cylinder, like one on the pictures here, there were always three per the container
- "conical" cylinder, which was one in the container, putted in the front of the three "straight" in the tip of the container

Three by purpose
- jerry can, either water or gasoline, distinguished by color strip
- yellow (Kraftstoft) gasoline
- green (Trinkwasser) drinking water
- general purpose - food, ammo etc.

If you are interested I can make pictures of those (I do have five different ones)
- two conical (one gasoline, one water)
- three "straight" (gasoline, water, general purpose)

I have made four quick pictures of the jerry cans I do have (all three were repainted after war with black paint and I did not finished renovation, yet),

conical is water (Trinkwasser), other two "straight" are one for water, one for gasoline.

I can make more detailed pictures later on

Other two do have are later war sand yellow - one straight general purpose (slightly different design, than the one mentioned here) and second is conical jerry can...

Hello, I took this picture in 1978 at the east of Caen, Normandy.
One friend had this and can have others.


Perhaps planes dropped containers, because by road it was hard !
