    Foreign Patch??

This patch came out of a local estate sale, along with various other cloth items, mostly German WWII and US.

I have been unable to identify what it is.

can somebody please point me in the correct direction?

    Thanks in advance!

It looks like a bad modern copy of the Combined Operations badge first used by the British in 1942, under Lord Mountbatten - to Commandos, Beach Parties and others working in CombiNed Ops. It was also issued to US Rangers who took part in the D-Day landings. Its been copied by many units/armies since. Here's a source for some info. on the originals, as I'm no expert: http://www.combinedops.com/INSIGNIA%20HISTORY2.htm

Thanks. That certainly is what this is supposed to be.

From the front it looks very good to me. Do you have a Pic of the Reverse?
Recently I saw good (front) ones but with a Plastic coated Backing what is wrong for the Period.
And Yes, it's USN and not british.

That is the correct ID of this insignia- WW2 US Navy Amphibious Forces shoulder sleeve insignia. It is one of a very few shoulder insignia worn by the Navy in WW2. My father-in-law's WW2 jumper has an identical one on it. He was part of an LST crew.
