    WW1 Panzer badge

A friend of mine was thinking about buying this. In my opinion it is a reasonable casting of one and not original. What do others think ?

Not a match for any original that I have ever seen but it certainly matches the type of fakes one sees,

Please read the interesting questions, being asked below by others on this auction site of this badge. The vendor is stating that everything is 100% correct and is guaranteeing it as 100% original.

I fear that some collector might be about to get burnt on this one.

Any one else think that this badge is not good,

          Chris

""Hi, do you think this badge would stand up to scrutiny on WAF (Wehrmact Awards Forum)? Would you guarantee 100% authenticity or money back? Thanks Hieme. hieme (1787 ) 2:55 pm, Mon 20 Aug

yes 6:29 pm, Mon 20 Aug""

""I was going to ask something similar as I've only seen one for sale before and it was nearly 1000 euros, approx 1500NZ - will you offer a 100% money back guarantee if I'm not happy mate? Thanks! panzermeister (88 ) 5:43 pm, Wed 22 Aug

yes i believe it is worth $1000+ i dont really want to sell it just need the money...dont let the 'cheap' price put you off it is just priced to sell 6:55 pm, Wed 22 Aug""

The hardware to indicates no earlier than TR period however the reverse of the badge, with the "doughnut" effect, makes me think it is most like a cast repro. No finish evident anywhere, lots of tiny dings on the reverse and the massive footprint of the main pin at the base of the pin to me indicates a softer (incorrect) alloy. Not for my collection.

Evaluate the item, not the story and not the seller's reputation!

If you PM/contact me without the courtesy of using your first name, please don't be offended if I politely ignore you!

                Many thanks Mike and Don,

my friend was convinced not to buy but sadly another collector did buy it. Perhaps he might see this and ask for his money back,

Yes indeed, another collector did buy it, unfortunately it was me. The seller gave me positive feedback, however, once I sent him the link to the thread about the badge I started here, and over at GMIC, and asked him to make good on his promise for a full refund, he blacklisted me, so I can't contact him through the site. He now refuses to answer any of my emails, and even though I contacted the site management, I'm not holding my breath. I also tried to start a dispute via paypal, but they told me they couldn't help me as the transaction was not for goods or services. I don't understand that, and asked them for an explanation.

James Moore, of Christchurch City, Canterbury, New Zealand, took $700NZ off me, and I fear I'm either not going to get my money back, or I am in for a protracted struggle. I'll keep you guys up to date. On the upside, I've been working my way through his feedback, and sending a message to everyone I can who has had dealings with him, and have received a lot of support. Someone suggested because of the size of the fraud, I should contact the local police. I'm going to wait a day or so to see what Trade Me site management and paypal have to say first.

The sunken center on the back clearly indicates shrinking from casting. It looks like the pin has dug into the badge below the hinge. That indicates a soft, castable metal as opposed what would be used in a die strike. Plus, die striking tempers the metal so it is very hard, and the pin wouldn't dig into it.
