    Interesting WW1 American POWs photo

Thought you all might like seeing this -- it is a photo taken by the Germans and re-captured by the Americans. It is a large photo bigger than a 5 X 7 but smaller than an 8 X 10.

This is one of a series of photos taken at this time. The photographer also caught a group of German stormtroops making their way up this same hill wearing a few American helmets and carrying other captured items. The unit is supposedly the Sturm-Bataillon Nr.14. The photo has been reprinted in several books.

Thanks chip -- so you don't think this one is original? If not it must be an old reprint as it does show some age.

The photo is fine. I'm sure that the Germans printed many copies of these photos for propaganda purposes since these were the first American prisoners to be captured. I am told that the prisoners are most likely from the 1st Division as they and one other division were attacked near Seicheprey in April of 1918.
