I think this is a Bergbaudienst cap (Coal miners association).
    Imperial era cap from militaryheadgear.com

sprogcollector,it crossed my mind as well it has something to do with mining but as you say it's 2 hammers for miners.
here's a close up of the badge.

Sorry. In the initial pictures I thought it was 2 hammers on your cap! Thanks for the enlarged photo. I've seen this cap badge before so I think we should be able to figure it out!

ok Chris,;I'm curious what the badge is for.
thought about road works or the guys that dig the trenches for postal cables underground.
          but I'm probably way off.
I have a few off those schachthut examples myself like the one you posted.
tricky items since they haven't changed much in the last 100 years.
fifties or sixties dated pieces are as we speak offered as being from roundabout 1900 or third reich-era.
there aren't any west german yet on the forum so in time I'll post some.
          all the best.

            Hi,

it could be for a local fire service.

              Uwe,I really don't know.
never saw yellow piping for firemen and gold buttons are not typical for firedep either.
I'm thinking more and more of postal.
they did wear THW jackets and equipment and I believe they had once some sort of civil duty as well.
              all the best,

I would put it in the postal Corner.

I would agree with Nico. I think this is probably a Bundespost cap. I'm looking to see if any special uniform items would have been used by Katastrophenschutz der Deutschen Bundespost. I still haven't found a photo of this cap badge, though.

                    I've been searching myself,telecom katastrofenschutz,katastrofenschutz bundespost etc.
every new google term you see those THW jacke with post badge from the THW thread on the WAF.
searched for the austrian version of the civil defence.Alkero did produce for export.
                    no shovel/pickaxe badges yet.
                    all the best to everybody,

The only other possibility I can think of would be associated with the railroad or autobahn maintenance/construction organization. There were M-43 style caps used by the railroad but I've never seen one with any type of piping.

next google mission is for some strassenbahn arbeitsstaffel geschwader then.
not today for me I'm afraid.
see you tomorrow maybe with some intel on this cap.
                        all the best,

found another one, this time from Carl Isken.
it has a sort off rubberised striping to get noticed probably alongside roads.
                            same badge and piping.
                            trench digging,cable laying postal workers?
                            human traffic cone?
                            all the best,
