    MG42 Lafette Restoration Project

I recently aquired this Lafette Tripod after canvassing the opinions of members about authentic paint colours. Well here it is - covered in grease and awful paint.

This is after several hours armed with engine degreasant (Gunk TM), Paint-stripper, a wire brush and a scraper - on reflection it would have been easier to get the thing sand blasted! Does anyone know at what time did leather pads get substituted for webbing/canvas types (or vice versa)?

        Seigfried,

speak to a seller called 'bergflak' on ebay....he is in Norway. If he cannot get you one....i would be suprised. Also the spare bolt box. I saw both pieces you wanted on ebay recently....do regular searches induer "lafette" "MG34" and they will probably turn up! There is also usually good paint for sale at the European shows!

        Good luck! Wade K.

Well here she is! A couple of coats of Dunkelgelb in the garage and it looks a treat. I will get round to recovering the pads and maybe get a German range plate/carrying straps eventually. Unfortunately my MG34 on it's bipod looks out of place so I will have to get another one!

This is a reminder of what it looked like when I went to collect it from JPDeacts!
