Found this and had to have it. Mr. Griffin is a class act and told me when, where and how he aquired it. Not a cupman3 piece, I have peace of mind with this one. Has matching named trousers. Too bad about the sleeve insignia being a bit damaged, but it doesn't bother me at all. A neat unifrom for my collection though.

Hi guys, hisashi over at the AHF came through for me again. He wrote:
1st line: His ID number in the navy (nyuseki bango 入籍番号, 號 is an old style for 号). Hardly readable but perhaps 舞志飛五一八八. 舞 meant accepted in Maizuru Naval District (roughly, Japan Sea side of Honshu Island). 志 meant volunteer. 飛 meant service-in-arm, aviation. So it meant Maizuru-volunteer-aviation-5188.
He must be a pilot from Yokaren, Otsushu (type B). In this system he spent three years (shortened after) and served as a sailor. After one years service or so he became an NCO. More famous Yokaren, Koshu (type A) began in 1937 but this clothes are made in 1935 as referred later.
2nd line: His name 小林新作 (Kobayashi Shinsaku)
3rd line: blanc but form was for 'issued date'. Perhaps this clothes was to be passed to younger candidates after Kobayashi returned them. In IJN/IJA privates and NCOs had their dress rent and returned them on retirement.
4th line: Size/Produced Date. Size small-4 (I don't know of the spec), made in Nov 1935.
5th line: 第二衣糧廠 (2nd clothing and ration fab) located in Himeji City, Hyogo Prefecture. They made navy clothing and durable rations.

Super quick shipping from Mr. Griffin made my Thanksgiving! Got in the uniform. It's a beautiful uniform but one thing shocked me. I know the Japanese are naturally of small stature, but the cadet who wore this, whom I think would represent the average size they were looking for in pilots at the time of 1935 would fit that of a 10 - 12 year old caucasian boy. Wonderful rare piece for my collection though. Now I just need to figure out how to display it.

Happy Sunday to all, depending on what part of the blue dot you sit. I'm considering breaking a cardinal rule of mine, messing with a piece. But its such a small detail. If I could find out what proper color (branch) of sakura to put on this sleeve shield, I might try and find an original and replace the missing one. Based on the info above, would that mean it should be a blue aviation sakura? I'm not even sure I'll do this, but the only way would be is if were the correct branch/color. Thanks in advance....
