Couldn't make up my mind whether this belongs in the Soldbuch and Wehrpass Forum or here. I think it really belongs here. Just the relevant pages. Before joining SS-Fallschirmjäger Bataillon 600, Walbank served in various SS units in Russia from 1941 onwards. EK2, IAB in Bronze, Winter War Medal and Wound Badge. A classic battle-hardened SS NCO. Even without the para connection, it would be an impressive Soldbuch. Walbank may have fought in the Ardennes with Panzerbrigade 150. I haven't really applied myself to researching it yet.

Well, somebody is trying to sell this on Internet. I think it is a fake and that the SS-500/600 IDs were coded or just have the Depot unit of the man.

I agree with you that this ID plaque is a fake. In fact, it is really a fantasy piece. The SS-FJ Btl would never have issued ID plaques bearing unit details in clear language like this. For strategic security reasons, members of airborne units, including those of the Luftwaffe, were not even supposed to carry their soldbuchs in front line areas although many soldiers ignored this guideline. They were supposed to turn their soldbuchs and other unit-specific documentation into their unit or sub-unit HQ in exchange for a stamped chit to show the military police or anyone else entitled to demand proof of identity. Anyway, this 'thing' from eBay screams of Vodka-laced urine, battery acid and a few weeks in Ivan the Awful's window box.
