This Bergmutz is lacking a number key features found on original specimens and agree with the others that the possibility of it being genuine is extremely low.

Textbook original short visor WWII German EM NCO Gebirgsjäger field cap with the original WWII German Gebirgsjäger snow goggles. Has machine sewn T insignia (not sewn thru) on front and the usual brown resin buttons these caps are supposed to have. Has Edelweiss badge sewn to side. Inner has maker marks. Has some slight wear and just enough to give a nice look to it. Just out of the woodowork. One of the few EM NCO originals Ive ever seen.

Bergmutze

Hello
Can someone post real Bergmutzen then if this one is not real, all I can go with is what the estate picker told me here as it came with other WWII items, yes that old story. It has the short brim, cotton interior, resin wood buttons like they are suppose to have, machine sewn T insignia not sewn thru, has age and wear. Can someone show then real examples of Bergmutz. This one has a Austrian maker stamp in it. Please post your WWII EM NCO early war Bergmutzen so we can see what is the differences. Will be a learing experience then. Yes one can never trust estate pickers but the way this one came in it was a one looker grouping from the estate. Please point out the detailed problems with the cap as compared to textbook issue pieces. If its a fake it was made years ago.

Honestly guys, we need to move away from the word textbook (how I hate hate that word!)

There is nothing textbook about any of the Third Reich. The more you read the original publications, the more or less clear it all becomes, take your pick really.

But the only cap I'd be totaly happy with here is Mr festungspanian's cap. Whether it's textbook or not is beside the point, based on the photos (and it's always based on photos here so give me a break) it's without question IMO original and that's the only thing that counts, right?
