The first time ever combat gas attack was used in December 1914 on the easter front in Poland and than in western from 1915 so maybe its some kind of early cosntruction.

I bought for few euros at fleamarket.

Here is the french I WW gasmask I was refering to :

              http://www.gasmasklexikon.com/Page/Start01.htm

              It's very similar in construction.

It has size stamp and what seems to be maker mark . maybe someone of you could say who is the maker ?

maybe it could be german early gasmask / austro-hingarian or russsian gasmask ?

I would say a 1980's Dust Cover for Workers. Construction reminds me on eastern block Countries.

Mask is made in the wrong material to be any effective against gas, cloth gasmasks from that time frame were made up from many different layers of fine cloth which were chemically treated to counter poison gasses. This specimen is just a single layer and probably not even chemically treated. I think Uscob might have a lead there.

It is not a single layer gasmask . it has at least 3 layers of cloth ( two white external very thin layer and one internal very thick ) and some and internal layer has some chemical threatment as it is more stiff.

Ok, I admit, it's a little hard to see from the picture how many layers this thing has. The gasmasks of this type from WW1 had up to 40!! layers, not just 3 or 4. I suspect that it's more like a flame-retarding mask (like the ones they wear on ships when they fire the big guns). It's certainly not a gasmask from the First World War, that much I can tell you. It could also be a protective mask for sand blasting.
