Restoring An EKI With A Rusty Core

I just posted my first EKI over in the Crosses section of the forum:

I'm going to try to make the core look a little more presentable. I've haven't decided yet exactly what I'm going to do with it, but I think a soak in oxalic acid (or whatever my local equivalent is) would do it a world of good, especially seeing the improvement that Ammersee managed to get with his 1914 EKII. Incidentally, has anyone ever soaked a rusty cross in CLR before?

I'd like to hear your opinions about this.

I decided to go with the same stuff that Ammersee used on his Iron Cross, Evapo-rust, and I am quite impressed with the results.

Posting the before and after here for posterity.

      Nice. Perfect choice, no acids.

Thanks for the compliments gentlemen. This stuff makes me want to buy more rusty relics to soak and bring back to life.
