    Meissen RK

    Gentlemen,

Although not a cross as defined by our collecting community, allow me to post an item directly ralated to the Knights Cross.

During the Third Reich, the WWI U-Boat Veteran's Association commissioned the Meissen Porcelain Company to produce 91 plates which were presented to U-Boat Commanders who were presented the Knights Cross. Admiral Bauer was the one exception who was presented his "Teller" for developing deployment doctrine for the employment of U-Boats in combat. He was credited for much of their success.

With Meissen only producing 91 "Teller", it certainly makes this the rarest plate produced during the Imperial/Third Reich period.

A closer look might reveal a Knights Cross with Oakleaves in the lower portion of the plate .... plus the explanation in Michael's text ....

@ Michael: very nice! Thanks for posting!

          Danke

          Dear Dietrich,

          Thank you.

Not sure why the U-Boats Veterans Association decided to use the Oak Leaves in their motif as the "Teller" was intended to be presented to U-Boat RK recipients.

Kapitanleutnant Herbert Kuppisch received his RK 14.05.1941 and was KIA 27. 08. 1943 when his U-Boat "U 847" was sunk by torpedo bombers from the USS Card.

I understand, the "Pour le Merite" was not ment for Kuppisch, more a generic detaile
