I really like it John! It looks great on that piece of moth-eaten cap.
$395 seems high but prices are really climbing of late!

This is a TK from Bruce Herman in California. Bruce is a great guy to deal with and finds a lot of stuff from Vets. I believe this one came out a estate auction. The price may seem high now but you have to ask yourself what will it be worth 5 years from now. Thanks

Hi Gary, comparing the two deathsheads together I am sure that you are correct, and that the offered for sale is a fake.

          Cheers, Ade.

Hmmm supposidly it came from a Vets estate at least that is what is mentioned in the description. Again Bruce is a fine dealer but you have to know what you are buying no matter who it is from IMO, Thanks

Damn! Well that's it for me folks! I'm getting really tired of being wrong
here lately. I always thought this variation was a good one. Your not
going to change your mind on me, are you Gary? I'm already as confused
              as possible.

                Ade,
they sure look the same to me,there are key point in the design that match, the tk on the cap looks stretched sideways
                cheers,

                  eye

Is this not one of the droopy eye reproductions we have seen in the past?

here is an officers fake same design with some of the trait's highlighted, so IMO a fake that has been around a long time
                    cheers,

                      Brian,
no I am not going to change my mind, this fake has been around a long time, it fooled me and many others in the 70's, so was probably produced sometime then or before, the photo of the officers one above is one mike beaver sent me along with the fake cap eagle that was produced at the same time, this tk comes in white, grey, tan and the officers type, there is also a noticeable difference to the black weave in the eyes/nose and around the tk emblem, it is much more tightly woven just like the first type bigfoot eagles so they were in all likely made by the same manafuturer

Having said that some say that this style of tk is an original pattern and has been faked, but in my mind and IMO it is a fake, it also has been copied 2-3 times as well so there are slight differences, I think there probably copied a tk like this one below which is an orignial.
                      cheers,
                      Gary

here is the fake eagle (bottom) produced at the same time, with a comparison to an original eagle (top),
again photo curtesy of Mike Beaver

                        cheers,

Thanks for the lesson, Gary. I was sure that was a good one. It
looks as though I'm out of my depth here! There is one just like
it in "Cloth Insignia of the SS" by John Angolia. It's in the upper
left at the bottom of page 453. I always felt very confident that
they were all good ones. I've had examples of the two on the right.
Do you believe that the one in the book is bad, or do you feel that
these that you and John have posted are just very good copies of it?

They look rather different to me, particularly in the shape and width of the lower side of the jaw line. Don't think it has to do with stretching.
