tk ring on relics of the reich site

    Hi there,
the ring on this site http://www.relicsofthereich.com/shop/viewphoto.php?x=7
when you compare the engraving on the Frank ring on the hr and box thread http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...=455744&page=6 the lines on the bottom of the dates and the letter n are missing does this matter ?

When this ring first appeared for sale I thought it looked a good one. I can only assume that the engraving was either done by another person, or they just decided not to add the extra bits that day.

      FRANK ring

Not original engraving, to be perfectly "frank".

        Ring

The serif at the bottom is sometimes omitted on original rings. Enclosed is an example of original engraving on a ring purchased from mr. Boyle 25 years ago. Compare to the Frank ring.

Click on the WAF website provided, and look at post #86. Notice how the "F" in Frank has raised surfaces along the edges. This is from where the sculptor carved the name into wax. This displaces the wax, and causes the edges to raise up. Also notice the cross-line on the F. Should be fine and more continual. Original engraving was done on silver, not wax. Besides, they weren't even cast!! Look at the date numbers. Look at the "a". Not Gahr engraving. Compare to the Koehl ring. Make up your own mind.

Well here's another fine point the fakers will have to address.

                Rings

Address as they will, the fakers already have access to original rings and countless photos of original rings from which to base their forgeries. They KNOW what it's supposed to look like - they usually JUST CAN'T DUPLICATE IT!! This is because the skill level required to duplicate fine hand engraving is only acquired after years of experience, and with the correct tools. And THEN, even if you have a top-notch engraver......can you duplicate everything else correctly?? Harder than you think. Factor in that probably every fake you see is cast in silver, and the original totenkopfrings were "stamped out", using heavy machinery that was hand tooled. The Frank ring, IMHO, with it's major flaws, poor leaf detail, and poor inside inscription was an easy call. There are much better TK ring copies out there, that are a tougher call. pS: For those who want to buy a TK Ring, don't be scared off. Notice how no one questioned the "Hoffman" ring used as comparison. Why is that? When John Peppera shows some of his original rings, no one questions them. That should tell you something.

                    Ring

The "Hoffman" ring from Relics of the Reich is original IMO. I don't think the Frank ring has anything to do with them.

The "Hoffmann" ring came out of Germany recently - indeed it has nothing to do with the "Frank" ring.

Correct and the photo I showed was the picture from the catalog.
