    US Canteen Manufactures Markings?

I bought a US WWII canteen while I was in France.

    The canteen has the markings:

    US
    RUTENBER ELECTRIC CO.
    1943

I couldn't find anything about this canteen on the internet.

Did Rutenber Electric Co. make canteens during the war?
Is this maker's mark hard to find on canteens? Valuable?

There were dozens of makers of US canteens during WW2, and they were turned out by the millions. I suppose there are guys who collect canteens by specific makers, but mostly canteens from that era are so common that they don't command very high prices. Just my 2 cents.

The only reason I asked was because I looked up the canteen and manufacturer and I couldn't find anything about it.

Likely another company contracted to 'make stuff' for the military. Here's a wiki article for ya:

          http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edwin_Rutenber

Company was in business until 1958.

              WWII canteen

I have started collecting canteens from 1943 till 2004. Look at yours and let us know if it is a top half/bottom half or a front half back half. The neck/mouth of the canteen can be solid or hollow. The canteen cups are varied as well. The Lid of the canteen should have cork as a seal. The chain that holds the lid to the canteen can be attached to the neck assembly or to a welded loop on the body of the canteen. There are many nuances.

As someone who collects canteens by makers, this is a harder to find canteen, just like a T.A.C.U.Co 1941 canteen. I have seen only 2 Rutenber canteens, this being the second. Hold on to this one, as you may not find another one, ever.

Agreed. Difficult to find maker for sure.
