    Chaplains Cross/Crucifix

Greetings, this cross was aquired in a small Vet. family grouping recently. It came with a NSDAP banner, armband and police sleeve eagle. I have searched here under both Chaplain and Crucifix and have found only the following pics. Would this be for a Catholic chapain? I didnt find a period pic of one in wear. All comments appreciated. Best, Bill Bourque

I know there are 2 kinds

This is one I had .

I may be mistaken but yours appears to be a normal European Catholic Cross.

Wait for others to chime in.

There were 2 different crosses, one for Evangelical Chaplains and one for Catholics.

          Mine pictured is Evangeliacal.

The black wood & silver Catholic Cross posted by hs132 is not military & not even connected to WW2. They used to be worn by Catholic Nuns on their Habits years ago, & they came in different sizes. A firm that dealt in fakes in the 1970's, "WW#2 LTD, St. Louis, MO," bought up a large lot of them, & sold them as "WW2 German" , priced @ $5, as pictured in their 1978 catalog on page 24, item #4108. These Crosses were a perfect candidate to the fake-peddlers as "Chaplain's Crosses". These things keep poping up at all the gun shows & flea markets.

Anyone got a catholic WW2 one to show? I know sometimes if you comb flea market here in Germany you will find them mixed in with the hundreds of post war black ones.

Hello, thanks for the followup. I have no explaination for its presence in the grouping. I do now faintly recall almost having my left eye poked out by a similar cross when an eager Nun was pointing out a grammar mistake at my desk about 1963. Best, Bill

Since it is marked Germany you can rule it out 100%. That means it was made for export.

pre war exports also were marked germany.
