Interesting "Pantherturm" unit in Luftwaffe Soldbuch!?!?!?!

Initially there did not seem to much of interest with this Soldbuch so I put it back on the dealers table......

The Soldbuch belonged to Fw. Alfons Pietruske, interestingly promoted to Feldwebel 1.6.1945 as prisoner of war (quite common to get more money!!).

Units don't appear too interesting, Luftwaffen Bau Kompanie, Seefliegerhorst Kompanie, FP No. 46362 (Luftdienst Kdo. 1/12 - drogue towing / target towing detachment), FP No. 49370 (Landesschützen Zug d. Lw. 50/III), Luftnachrichten Stelle.....
However the last unit recorded on page 17 is Heer Flakartillerie Ersatz Abteilung 276...not unusual for Luftwaffe to be transferred to Heer units at this stage in the war

However, due to page 17 being filled an extra page was inserted.....

What a contradiction in terms this unit is?!?!

      Festungs (Panthersturm-) Kompanie 1209

No idea what or where this unit was !?

It's Pantherturm, so it must be some tower assignment at that particular fortress. . . question is, where is this fortress?

Never noticed that....still no idea what or where it was!
Interesting if it is a towing unit as he served with Luftdienst / Fliegerziel which was a Lufwaffe target towing unit....at that stage in the war however, I would not expect anyone to be towing targets....

Pantherturm is very interesting and never seen such an entry before!!

Just found this link searching for Pantherturm (as Panthersturm didn't show anything!) and apparently a Pantherturm was a:
"Panther turret (from battle damaged and retired vehicles along with specially manufactured ones) used in fortifications"
"Turrets were mounted on the concrete (or wooden) emplacements or welded steel boxes, which housed the ammunition storage and fighting compartment along with crew quarters. Such emplacements were located in fortifications of Atlantic Wall, West Wall, Goten-Linie, Hitler Line and in the East.
            "

Also of interest when he was transferred to the Pantherturm unit he was issued a flare pistol, pistol, iron rations and a pair of binoculars.

There are a few fotos of Panther turrets being used in northern Italy and in Berlin.

                    Dear all,
I'm quite interested in Festungs PAK 101. May Grandfather was shifted to this training unit in Feb. 1945. He moved from Fallingbostel to Berlin in March 1945 (Heereswaffenmeisterschule Treptow)

I'm searching information on the "Spernat" unit

                    kind regards

                    Tom

                        Ian,

Well in all my collecting years I did see 4 Pantherturm unit members before, yours now is number 5.
Can only say that one doesn't see such booklets that often.

                        Nice catch !

                        yours
