    Strange EK... Godet core & odd frame

    Hello All...

    Here's one that's puzzling me... I purchased this one on the estand from Ben because I found it very unusual. It's an unmarked cross that has a Godet core (I'm sure of that), but the frame is definitely not a Godet frame. There's no sign that the cross has been interfered with. Has anyone else ever seen one like this?
    (I'm using Ben's pictures for the moment - I hope he doesn't mind )

    Regards - Danny

      Interesting cross Danny.
      I fully agree the core is a Godet yet the frame almost looks like the type found on the thick type round 3 crosses. Out of curiosity, can you get Ben to measure the thickness?

        Hi Adrian,

        I have it here, it just arrived but I have not had a chance to photograph it yet.

        It is 4.64mm thick and weighs 20.8 grams.

        Regards - Danny

          It doesn't look like it's that then! Is it my eyes or does the flange on the frame seem fairly thin in comparison to regular EK2s?
          Still looking......

                      Hi Douglas,

                      So it's a known variant Godet? What can you tell us about the frame, which is not the same as their '21' marked crosses as far as I can tell, nor the same as their 'L/50' marked EK1s. I'm interested to hear what you know about this one, if you don't mind.

                      Thanks,
                      Best regards,
                      Streptile

                      Looking for ROUND BUTTON 1939 EK1 Spange cases (LDO or PKZ)

                        Trever ;
                        It resembeles fairly close an U'bergrosse EK2 , the corners are different . The likeness and narrow frame , and being so few around , would indicate they could not use that die anymore until 43 . Instead Godet opted to used Zimmermann frames with the high bead count corners .

                          Douglas,

                          Thank you very much for the information about this cross. I'm glad the mystery has been solved.
                          I had noticed the similarities with the beading to the ubergroße, and it was one of the first crosses I compared the frame with.
                          Anyway, thanks again for your help, and for letting me know that this is one of the 'rarer' ones!

                          Regards - Danny

                            Interesting enough Danny , ... Since you posted your cross I had a more detailed look at the pictures , a lot more than first . The narrow frame edge indicates something different . I suspect/think now there could be a chance of it being a size reduced U'bergross EK2 . Pictures do not give any true size ... so I redid the picture asking for some measurements to compare with the reduced size UB I have , to rule a certain : yes or no .

                            Thanks Douglas

                              Hi Douglas,

                              This is getting very interesting!
                              Here are the measurements you requested. (all in millimetres)
                              I believe the core is a standard size Godet core.

                              A = 21.07
                              B = 5.87
                              C = 10.93
                              D = 37.30
                              E = 42.02
                              F = 25.35
                              G = 44.38 (width) & 44.55 (height)

                              I hope this helps.
                              Regards - Danny
