      cpmil,
I've owned several felt body picklehaubers and while each was slightly differant in details, I would have no problem with the helmet itself....as far as the "R 22" front plate, first I've seen "close up" of this style plate, but also looks legit.....whether they belong together is another question.

The 22nd Res. Bavarian Regt. was assigned to the 8th Bav. Division.....and has the following Battle honors: Dixmude; Belquim; Lys; Woevre; Champagne; Vesle; & Araennes .......(from 1918 Order of Battle)

I don't see any problems except restoring the rest of the helmet....however, I am not the FINAL ANSWERE on Imperial stuff....wait for more opinions or check one of the WW 1 forums, Picklehauber/Spiked Helmet dealers....or whatever.

Nice helmet, I'd give it shelf space anytime!

I'd say this is a well-known fake and there is "0" chance that it is good. Of course, the markings are fake as well.

If you would like the opinions of knowledgeable collectors, run it by the specialists at http://www.pickelhaubes.com.

Lack of wear on the leather inside, pins inside to thin, stamp too clear and new rust on the plate....if it was cheap I would have it as an example, agree with Chip

Listen to Chip, he nailed it! Sorry to say, but this helmet is a well known 100% fake...

              All,
If it's a reproduction, it's a new one on me. I did see that the Spike pins are thinner than usual.....but as far as condition, markings, etc. I've seen many Spiked helmets that were "unworn", including felt ones....at one time I had over 20Spikes, Tshakos, GdK & JzP helmets (back when $50.00 was the going rate for a Prussian Line helmet).

I haven't been following Spikes so maybe there are new repro.s out there that I haven't seen. The only fakes I know of are some metal versions and leather Picklehaubs that wouldn't fool anyone......will bow to superior knowledge!!!

Again, old dogs are never too old to learn something new...

John you are very much like me...I have never seen a copy of this haube..that said the fittings do not meet the known examples...my collection of felt came from a museum and so "happy" with them to a point...no one to date has undertaken a study of "copy" haube so we must base this on known examples......as I said I would be happy to happy to have this as an example.....but not as an original

Hmmmmmm the one on Ebay looks to be the exact same type of fake as the one cpmil posted for discussion here

                    Same stamps, pins etc

These fakes have been out for years...... I'm talking decades. The makers (Czech, I think) also made felt busbys and felt Jäger Tschakos. They all have the same leather trim, same markings and are made from the same odd colored felt.
