I friend gave me a m40 LW to see if i could sell it , the only thing about it is that it is painted black or looks black to me . Did the LW have black m40 helmets ? will post pic's tomorrow .....thanks james

Thats interesting, in what situation would they paint a Luft black? Would it be done at a depot level, or did the factory do it? Whats the maker?

the code in the helmet is 9810 or 9813 it looks like a 0 but i'm not 100%, the size is a 64,,

I had an M40 Heer once with a marking like that, and no one on three forums could provide a clue to it's meaning? Depot issue stamp? Unit marking? Don't know for sure.. .
