This is great! But only recently /in 2003/ some idiots on the UK - do not remember which organization, may be even the previous owners of this one shown above - got the hull from another such boat, but found it too bad shape and scrapped it!! No matter it was strong enough to be able to float after applying some patches. I could not believe a unique WW2 boat can be scrapped in year 2003 in a modern European country /not in some African coastal country/ - but it happened!

S-97 was scrapped by the BMPT due to lack of money. I don't think that's going to be a problem for Kevin. Here is a link to his collection website

Goverments are poor respectors of history , they appear to be photographed when the paying is done.
So often it is men like Kevin Wheatcroft who step in to do what goverments should be doing , in this case the german goverment.

The S-130 website now has dive videos of several boats scuttled off the Danish coast. Apparently, Kevin intends to salvage needed parts off these wrecks.

Today I was reading about the boats and still can not imagine what **** loads of idiocy it takes to scrap such thing in the 21st century And those are people who pretend to be interested in history!

Well thats an easy one to answer!and the answer is greed! Alot of people think if they can make money on something feck it go for it!sure a few years back i read here of 2 or 3 t34 that had all the original paint and painted slogans by there crews that were scrapped in a china cos the owners thought they could make more money in scrap!there were even pics of the tanks beìng scrapped to!terrible thing to see but it all boils down to money!
