      Hi Giel,

there is always a problem with the unmarked versions of the Danzig Cross. There are some known copies which are easily identifiable but this one is difficult. All marked versions have the crown with "filled" gaps. In this case the gaps are actually cut-out.

      Have a look here:

      http://dev.wehrmacht-awards.com/foru...55&postcount=3

These are three ground finds that I got. The Danzig cross 2nd class is the unmarked version but because of its discovery history undoubtedly an unmarked original. The crown gaps are "filled" just like the marked versions.

I am not too sure about the one in your picture. It is in mint condition though (see back of cross - no scratches, mirror surface).

Good evening René, and thank you very much for your reply.

I have to admit, disregarding the fact that I only collect wh/ss badges, these Danzig crosses always were a weak spot for me. I saw two for sale some years ago in the four/five years I collect and both were gone in seconds. I finally found this one for sale and I really hope I can purchase it without having bad feelings about it. The fact that it is mounted really makes it special imo.

Are there any close ups you'd like to see?
        Kind regards,
        Giel

          Hi Giel,

I will see if I can find some of the other pics I have of some of the unmarked versions (fakes and originals) and will get back to you once I had a chance to look through them.

              Hi Giel,

here is an old pic I had of one Danzig Cross 2nd Class unmarked museum remake. It is a nice make but not original. You can see that the crown has the gaps cut out just like in your picture. The rest of the cross corresponds with the original Danzig crosses. The box is not original to the medal.

Another fake I know has white lines inside the tombak part of the cross arms. This is why this cross is closer to the original as it does not have the white lines. The only difference is the crown.
I will try and find a another pic of an unmarked cross which I know is a remake. It also does not have the white lines but I cannot remember the crown details.

At the moment I would be careful with the cross shown in your pic just because of the missing detail. I will try to get the picture of the other cross.

How much would it cost you to buy if you don;t mind me asking?

                PS:

A good detailed photo of the back of the cross in the area of the crown would be interesting!

                      Hi Giel,

I've no experience in these decorations, but my gut-feeling says no. The catch is mounted the wrong way i.e. the opening is facing up!

                      cheers

                        Hi Peter,

Thanks for your opinion, but from what I can see, the opening of the catch is facing down, or am I wrong?
                        Kind regards,
                        Giel

Giel, the rounded section of the ribbon should be facing down, as should the opening of the catch. From where I'm sitting they are different.

                          cheers
                          Peter

That's because he turned the medal 180 degrees to take pictures, I think there's nothing wrong there...
                            Kind regards,
                            Giel

Ok, I'll try again . If you look straight at the bar from the reverse, the cross will be visible from under the rounded edge of the ribbon. Then if you try to open the pin, it will go in the other direction.

                              cheers
