Not SS or SA !

Two great looking daggers that really dont get alot of attention compared to the SS & SA daggers.
On the left a Social Welfare dagger with the correct hanger and on the right a Red Cross Officers dagger with the correct hanger - really love the form of these daggers not to mention the feel when you hold one.

It is AMAZING to think of all the different daggers the Germans made! I mean, with a Social Welfare Dagger, they must have made one for everything conceivable! The scope and quality of their regalia is truly a collectors dream come true!

Might you be able to show some side by side comparison photos of the Social Welfare dagger and the Red Cross Officers dagger? They are very impressive and I am sure many of us newbies have not seen them before. Looking at them side by side would be a great educational experience for us.

Horst will correct me if I'm wrong but I believe the only real differences between the Red Cross dagger & the Social Welfare dagger is in the hangers (cloth & hardware) & the scabbard hanger holes (the former being rectangular & the latter being round).

Social Welfare daggers are a little more scarce than their Red Cross counterparts & there is a theory that there is really no substantive difference between the daggers at all & that hangers/hanger holes are explained as mannufacturers variants.

Stu - would be more than happy to explain the difference -If you look close at the scabbard hanger rings you will see that one has a square opening the other a round opening - According to Dagger scholars/experts the scabbard with the square opening is Social Welfare the other with the round opening Red Cross. There is still alot of debate relative to this as some think it dosent matter its only in the hanger construction/pattern - as you will note the two hangers are different in strap colors, the one with the red line is Red Cross the one with the blue line Social Welfare.
Basically the two daggers are all of the same construction/design with the exception of the scabbard/hangers holes.

Absolutely one of my favourites. Overlooked by many for reasons I fail to understand. when i picked up my first book & went through it looking at all the different daggers, this was one that jumped right out at me. Superb looking dagger & it was not until I bought mine that I had the opportunity to see one for real & hold it in my hand. Awesome!!!
