Never seen a tag like this before...
That doesn't mean anything, all right!
I think something is wrong with the text on it. It does not really mean anything that makes sence.
That's what I think...

The tag is Stab/Höherer SS- und Polizeiführer IX.

There may be a problem with the Roman numeral IX. The HSSPF used locations in their designations rather than letters or numbers. I think you had better check this out.

When it comes to dogtags, I honestly don't know anything so I'm not sure where to find more info on this.
The reason why I post it is because it comes together with a SS honor ring that I have posted for discussion here:

Just start Googling. There is an absolute ocean of information about the SS on the internet. In retrospect, the Roman numeral IX may have to do with an SS-Abschnitt or with a Wehrkreis. Wehrkreis IX was in the Hessen-Kurhessen-Thüringen region to the southwest, south and southeast of Kassel. So it may be Stab/HSSPF [in Wehrkreis] IX. But this is just a guess on my part so you should do your own research and check it out.

I asked the seller about the dogtag and here is the answer I got:

The last word is spelled wrong: it should be Bereich IX. Fulda is right in the middle of Wehrkreis IX, so this is essentially what I said. If I were you, and provided you are interested, I would still research it on the internet and perhaps get some books on the organization of the SS during the late 1930's and early 1940's.

I just read your thread on the honor ring. I have a reference book , probably the best made, Illustrated and dealing with German dogtags. Problem is Iam not at home but I will research this one tommorrow for you. It might be in the book possibly.

The individual's Stammrollennummer was always an Arabic number. At least I've never heard of one being a Roman numeral.
