    Medal Locations

I have picked up a panzer tunic and am a little baffled by the loops located in the middle of the left breast. Any ideas of the medals that could be displayed here. The two really close and then the one by itself below that. Thanks for any help.

I would say a EK1 spange and EK1 in the middle. Wound badge and and Gab on the sides. This would apply if the tunic is of a senior rank / WW1 vet. Another option is to do the EK1 in the middle , GAB on the left, riders badge on the left and a wound badge below the EK1. Hope this helps. Jacques

My worry is that the EK1 in the middle (like it should be) will hang on top of whatever is below it. The rank is Major. My first thought was like yours spange then the ek1 then maybe a wound badge (reffering to the verticle three). But They are so close. Good input and thanks

Maybe it was the spange that was attached to the Ek1 with a hinge, with a woud badge below. Jacques

Seems to me a Panzer Assault badge would be a better choice than a General Assault badge.

Since the uniform is Pink piked for Panzer......?

I agree that the loops to the center pocket are odd. Doesn't appear that an Iron Cross 1st Kls. spange and 1914 Iron Cross would not properly. Has me baffled.

Robert, can you post any photos of the tunic?

          Cheers,
          Howard

Yes those two in the middle are quite odd.

Will post photos of the whole thing later today. Thanks guys

I'd say EK1 through the upper middle loops and below that a PAB ..,maybe one of the heavy and numbered ones !?

Left and right... woundbadge, DRL ,Reiter..whatever..

Here is one with the EK1 in the middle two small loops. This is why this couldnt work. So Jos are you implying that the PAB use the bottom 3 (two small and then the one below the pocket) loops??

                    Exactly..
Upper 2 loops for the EK
All 3 bottom loops for the PAB..,think the 2 loops close together might be to allign a more heavy badge plus it's more safe when the upper loop should break..

                    Jos.

Occasionally in period photos you can see where the soldier is wearing various awards with one or more loops visible and not in use. Hard to say why. He may have substituted a higher award or one more desirable to him for an award he has removed, requiring a different spacing on loops, adding a loop and not removing the old loop.

In the case of some of the higher ranking Officers, the extra loops were used to secure awards not often worn. GFM von Manstein would wear various foreign decorations he had been awarded only when visiting with dignitaries or delegations from that country.

In this particular case, perhaps the closely spaced loops were for a HJ Diamond. These are sometimes seen on service uniforms.

                        Robert,

                        Nice tunic.

Since this is a high ranking tunic........

Number badge to center sounds plausible under the Iron Cross 1st kls.
Might have some World War One / Freikorps badge to one side.
Like Gallipoli star or something similar?

H.J. member pin sounds odd for a high ranking Major's tunic.

Great Job on finding a super tunic!

                        Cheers,
                        Howard

                          Hi,

                          Very nice PZ Officer tunic!

                          For me:

*Because the PZ badge have a long pin.

PS. The ribbon bar is placed of wrong form. Changes for the other side. The EKII ribbon pointed to the central buttons of the uniform.

                          Best regards,

                          Ricardo.

Wow lots of help. Thanks guys.
As for the ribbonbar I was just putting that on to help me figure out how long of one I will need to purchase. Good catch though. Thanks for everything and let me know if anybody has a brainstorm idea.

Those loops have me baffled but they sure do look original to the tunic. Very nice looking tunic.
