    Reversible Cammo Winter Parka Question

    Dear All,

How common were modifications where the hood was reworked into a collar? Are these modification specific to a certain theater of operation?

    Thanks and best regards,

    Albert

      Albert,
there were several reasons for that.

      - Personal taste
      - Post war civil use
      - And a required fieldmade modification, when the spring camouflage side was worn on the outside the white inside of the hood was visible even from very large distances. This is why the hood was often stuffed into the inside of the parka or was simply removed or turned into a collar.

      Hope this helps a bit...

      Cheers

      Fritz

Hi Albert, Fritz has summed up my thoughts on the subject. I would agree with all the points he has made.

        Cheers, Ade.

          A really good resume!
Maybe we can add totally destroyed hood that needed to be removed.

              Reversable winter Parka Question

              Hi All

White hoods were also responsible for many nasty head wounds. Great aming target

                Reversable Cammo winter Pakra question

                Hi

                great parka.

                is it yours ?

If so, could you let me see a picture of the back, particulary the arms (looking for any arm patches on the elbows).

                Please see my earlier thread.

                Cheers

                Leeb

Thanks again! That sounds like the most plausible explanation. Even though I don't collect SS this parka is mine. So here are the requested photos:

                        Hi Albert,

                        Thanks for the add pics.
Was it a war prisoner parka ???
It seems we can see some traces of white paint on it ?

Nice Wintertarnanzug in sping oak!! I love those field modified uniform pieces!
If done war time, I'd guess that this piece belonged to someone who had the proximity or influance with a Kompanie tailor to make this modification. Winter gear like this would have been issued in or around November and would have been collected before spring the next year. It would have been cleaned and repaired for reissue the next Nov. For someone to have the desire for such a fine alteration and to be able to get the job done, I imagine it was not your average Soldat.

                          What size it??

Yes, it seems to have PW written on the back and the sleaves. So this is definitely a been there piece.
