1870 Wideframe ????

Here is another 1870 EK2 to ponder over.
A little history----
I have owned this for several years and have posted it here and at
GMIC. I would like to post it again and see if there are any fresh opinions.

I am sure that this is NOT a 1870 issue piece. The details do not match any of the known good period 1870s that I could find.

now for the kicker-- This cross is 43.6mm X 43.6mm wide by tall.
Roughly the same size as a TR era cross.

Here is a picture of it next to a 1895 Jubilee cross.

So what is it???
Is it an odd post Jubilee piece with a wide frame? One of the
"experts" whos opinion I trust suggested that it was made during
the TR period. 1933-45. He thought that it was made as a muesum
copy or as a replacement piece.

sence it is not copying a known pattern, I do not believe it was made
as a fake and I think it was sold as a legitiment item.

Please let me here your opinions.

Looks convincing to me Greg. That small dome at the ring is very much a period detail of many of these early pieces. As you say the shape not exactly Schinkel. Several TR crosses had these domes at the ring also.
