I personally handled this breadbag and I could not get past the new scent. The cloth has a wrong odor. I knew it was wrong the moment I opened the package and put it to my nose. Also all the leather parts were soft and had an unmistakable new leather almost plastic smell. Also the rear d rings are funnny and I have seen a few M44 with the same lately. Also there are two different types of steel dish buttons one of them being a repair. (with the same thread?) There is little wear on the breadbag but keep in mind it was from one reenactor to another than to ebay.
I own many leather items some are as mint as you could hope. Leather that is sixty plus years old does not smell of new leather! if anything it smells musty. It has not been treated. I am no rookie when it comes to certain items especially ones I own many examples of.
I dwelled long and hard on this one because it was pretty textbook veiwed on the net but I would have been only fooling myself if I kept it. I am out to collect original german militaria not close enough textbook. My dilema was if I could keep this breadbag displayed knowing it wasnt genuine. I paid very cheap for this item and knew if I wanted one day I could even sell for profit. But stating its original would be simply a lie.
In the end I returned it and it went to the second highest bidder kuligow.
I was surprised to see it listed on your sight and honestly it made me a little ill.
I have been in this hobby for a long time and have spent considerable time and money. I dislike fake items and scammers who think they can hide behind the internet.
Kuliogow I think you are one of the better ones thats why I edited my post before it was viewed and sent you a pm.Last edited by Cra; 12-14-2006, 08:54 PM.

Heres one for comparison
Notice the same d rings and viewed from the back the left belt loop has the same offset stitching flaw? Notice the leather pieces.

There is also one listed on ostfront militaria.

Not saying these are fake but some things odd here.
In the end I just couldnt get past the new odor of the cloth and the leather fittings.
I can tell you this, when it was all said and done it was a relief to get that out of my collection not a loss.Last edited by Cra; 12-14-2006, 08:53 PM.

I dont know what to say .. really..
I handled this bag too (obvious).... there is no new smell to it.. smells like it has to for a nice condition bag...
and yes - leather 60+ yrs old can smell almost new - on mint well stored (packed away) items
leather.. fabric.. thread.. color.. metal parts.. buttons, paint on metal parts is ALL textbook.... there no traces of any modification.. alteration or upgrade. Not to mention I handled othr gear marked with same RBNR - and this is confirmed manufacturer of gear
and I also did handle many bradbags before....
thats All I have to say
if future owner wont like it - I can send it to anyone for personal inspection.. or burn it ..

Gentlemen,
keep your calm, each collector believes what he wants to believe about each item.
I didn't handle this one, but all features are OK. I didn't smell it, of course, but except this, i have nothing bad to say about it. Leather fittings of D-rings are pebbleb leather from remains of ammo pouches production, inside fittings and reinforcements are mixed, leather, cloth material, belt loops are sewed outside at the rear, as usual on 80 % of M44 breadbags, at least two or three quality of cloth material for the construction, i think there's no problem, and black leather fittings on a M44 breadbag, it looks good !
Rear stitching of belt loops looks awful to me, as usual....
ciao!
