Tropical Shoulder Boards - Which arm of service?

    Hi Team,
I showed these to Dal McGuirk and he likes the construction, materials etc. BUT - the waffenfarb is not pink, nor red. Dal was flummoxed. It's in between!
What prompted me to place these here is the set belonging to the SS Sahariana tunic/shorts set on e-stand. The colour is almost a dead ringer for that set. Are these SS Boards??
    Any help is appreciated.
    Regards,
    Mark.

      Hi Mark,
My old set I see. As you know I don't collect any Luftwaffe items so sold them to Greg quite some time ago.
I thought that they may have been em's signal boards.
      Certainly an interesting set.

        Hi Mark
Yes, they found their way to me (Never miss a chance!)
Dal had a good hands on, and couldn't flaw the set - just what's the piping, though...?
I did ask what he thought of Luft' signals, and a big NO was the answer
Chris (90th Light) was also present, and had seen this set earlier - at that stage he (also) put the 'SS' theory forward.
        Interesting indeed.
        Mark.

            Hi Mark,

Not typical construction for Luftwaffe trop. straps. You might post them in the SS Forum and see what the guys there think.

              Possible ID . . . .

              Hi,

I have a pair of LW Continental shoulder straps with the same odd piping. The straps are 100% period materials and construction but the odd piping has always bothered me a bit.

In the sunlight the first thing that comes to mind is Orange - maybe these are LW Military Police straps?

4 and last. The colour here is clearer as taken in natural light.

                            Thanks Mark,

Luftwaffe straps have stitching across the fold area, see the red dashes. I have seen hundreds of pairs and all had this stitching.

Is the material of your straps heavy like tunic or thin like shirt fabric? Most all Luft. tunic straps are backed with thin shirt material.

I still think these may be SS.

                            Cheers,
                            John

                              Hi John,
Thanks for the quick reply. The material is thick, unlike Luft' shirt material. The close up shows the weave of the fabric - quite coarse, and hard wearing.
                              Many Thanks!
                              Mark.
