    New RO/AG

    Hi Guys,
    I don't know why I can't seem to get a clear scan of my new badge here, maybe it's haunted . This is my first B&N L piece, did this firm make the whole line of Luftwaffe awards?

          Hi Brian it looks like you can use tri pod to get your pictures less blurry... ...anyhow based on these pictures your badge looks good to me. Would be great if you could post side view of the catch.
          Ps. I'm not a big Luftwaffe guy, so wait with celebrations until one of the "eagles" will visit this thread...

            Funny you said something about a tripod as I was just looking into one. Luft guy or not, your opinion ranks at the top with me. Side view of the catch will be posted as soon as I get some better equipment. Thanks for the input!

                Hi Frank, good to hear from you. The rivets are domed, but the reverse left rivet appears to have a flat spot that really shows up in these photos. Neither look to have been modified or repaired in any way. Both rivets look like they have solder around them, which I believe is normal for this maker. I didn't notice the flat spot until now. Thoughts?

                  Flattened heads would actually be a good sign, but maybe one does not have to be so strict here. At least one flat spot visible on one rivet.
                  Just make sure it is not a good casting. Check if the detail is there, at least in the unworn parts. Your pics are too blurry to judge that.

                          Since Brian seems a bit concerned about his badge I just want to add a bit of backround on the piece since he purchased it from me.

                          Brian's piece is not a cast copy. I got it directly from an antique dealer in Western Pennslyvania who got it from a vet's estate...the antique dealer did not even know what it was other than some sort of "WW2 nazi aviation badge".

                            Brian, your badge looks like a nice tombak example to me.

                            As usual, Frank has another beauty there.

                            B&NL made most of the LW badges; pilots in tombak, NO observer's though, radio operators in tombak like yours and in zinc with a bright silver wreath and black eagle, air gunners in both tombak and zinc made the same as RO/AG's, paratroopers in zinc but no ground assault's.

                              RO/AG badge

                              Hi Brian,
                              I like your badge and yes B&NL did make them. Here is my B&NL RO/AG badge and it has a war-time repaired catch. This badge was obtained from a veteran here in Arizona that worked during WWII as a camp guard at the Papago Park POW Camp (home of the famous German Great Escape during WWII). He would trade the prisoners for their awards and the such in return for stuff like soda and candy.
