Obstlt. Lothar Habersang, DKiG

Hello, here in Japan 2002 has only 2 hours to go... A few hours back I received the last parcel for this year. My job has terribly been busy for the last month, but it always refreshes me to receive new photos

This month I lost Lemm's albums to Manuel but a few days after I won a small but very nice photo grouping of Lothar Habersang. He received German Cross in Gold in 1942 as a batallion commander of Infanterie-Regiment 591. Look at his decorations, very charming! For just Eur 78 and not a few very clear picture of his, a real bargain it was

Best wishes for happy collecting in the New Year!

Now, here is an "Imperial mystery"--

Lothar Habersang was commissioned Leutnant in 1913 (vorpatentiert as an Abitur holder to seniority of 19.8.1911 V5v) in Infantry Regiment 158. Promoted Oberleutnant 5.10.16 G6g, and discharged after the war as charakterisiert Hauptmann aD--

yet despite the fact that he was from a LORRAINE regiment, he is wearing the Saxe-Weimar Wilhelm Ernst War Cross-- awarded only 362 times!!! From his ribbon bar, he apparently also had a Knight 2nd Class of the Saxe-Weimar Order of the White Falcon with Swords. (The third ribbon with swords looks like the Saxon Albert Order--but he is not on that award roll. Not a Baden Zähringen Lion either. Since he wasn't a Reichsheer officer, no List to show his post-WW1 awards!)

The 1914-18 Honor Rank List shows no staff service for him, so he remained in line infantry assignments during the war. How on earth even if transferred into a Weimar outfit-- he got the WEWC is beyond me-- even if he was a Saxe-Weimar citizen serving in the Lorraine regiment!

What else have you got of his, to come share with us over in Imperial? Rick

And thanks towards You Akira im 100 % positive that we are talking about the same guy => I will look the picture up again and post it here also.

It seems that our Oberst Lothar Habersang was a brave fellow

Cordial Greetings and have a good new year ( Im Ill => The Flu , so that party will not go through : )

Good to have helped you solving one of your mysteries, Stijn!

Here are the promised scans, the first is a postcard showing his pencilled portrait drawn most probably just after his awards, clearly showing 158 on shoulder boards.

And this photo shows him during the same period, already with his wife (and already with very little hair).

These are the two photos in the grouping showing him as a WWI officer, for you Rick and the great Imperial guys!

The seller mentioned his Generalmajor career... Clearly not during WWII, did he serve in Bundeswehr, I wonder?

            Outstanding pencil portrait!

It is REALLY weird to have confirmed that he remained in Inf Rgt 158 to receive the WEWC: he had to have held citizenship from Saxe-Weimar-- but even so, that far removed from Weimar troops, I am astonished his paperwork for one came through.

I hope Stijn posts his portrait photo and it IS Habersang. What a "small world" we collectors live in, isn't it?

Hmm, that makes Stijn and Akira "photo brothers-in-law" or something like me and my fellow ribbon bar crazies who share "joint custody" from the same original recipients!

Ach so, Habersang with a cap! Stijn's PC has been badly damaged, so he won't be around for some time... Poor Stijn...
