Polizei A Darker Shade of Blue

A few days ago I posted some pictures of a DVP tunic that in the post to me, well it arrived and it is really nice. I was about to file it away and thought it might be worth posting it and a few of it''s brothers and siters it' going to live with.
So first up is the wool DVP tunic pictured previously, but tarted up a little, I have still not been able to assertain the exact rank.....
(NB. the tie is a later KG one as I don't have an original one .. anyone out there got a spare.)

And finally a wool Feuerwehr tunic with Sachsen Badges, interestingly it has the same pattern of shoulderboards as the first tunic, so I don't know the rank!!!
I do like this outfit, note the different style of pockets.

              David,

              Great show !!!

All four are really superb very early era representations. Very nice indeed. I particularly like the Grenz Polizei. I always thought the addition of the shoulder patch made the tunic look that much more "Smart".

Thanks for posting pics of your collection.

wow Dave...very nice...I have to call in to see you and all these rare uniforms one day... just like from when I started frequenting this forum, I am still amazed to see that all of these early DDR uniforms even survived for this long and that they are in private hands...I just thought that all of these would have been destroyed and made into rags to be put to use elsewhere in the Volkswirtschaft as soon as they were phased out of service....well done and hold on to them...there simply cannot be that many out there in the big wide world...Cheers, Torsten.

Thanks for posting David I didn't know the piping of the Collar Tab are that different to the earlier type(not 2 twisted Cords).
                      Great Info!!
David, can you recommend a Reference Book for early DDR Uniforms and Rank Charts??
                      Thanks & Regards

To be honest Andreas, I think the piping is just a variation as it is of the type you see for piping the crowns of hats...

As for reference material I quess I only have the same as everyone else i.e. Kuebke, walther etc.
I've just been lucky and have been able to see alot of original old items over the years via some of my contacts, to be honest some of the reference books, whilst very good, should not be taken as gospel as they do make mistakes.... As with every thing it's experience of handling originals, period pictures (something I know your keen on) and places like this forum that expand your knowledge

                            David,

Superb uniforms. I should be so luck as to have those tunics/caps in my collection. Thanks very much for sharing them with us.

                            Andreas,

We will have to write a reference ourselves if we want a good one. Like David says, we all have the same few reference books. This fourm is our best reference.

                            Cheers,

                            Gordon

                              Hello Gordon,totally agree.
And I find the Idea is not even far off. I ask myself a long Time now,why isn't already that many and good reference material out there?I mean the few published Books are useful but IMO,with a steady growing DDR and also advanced Collectors Community,it is BIG TIME now to bring out some better Books. i.E. a new Reference Book for Medals/Badges showing Case,Front/Backside and Ribbon of the Medal/Badge in color and the same with Cloth Items.
I'd bet a "new kind" of Bartelskatalog, lets say 500-800 pages thick, that covers all kind of Medals and Badges (not Pins, would be to much) would sell with ease.
Also a Book related to Reproductions of DDR items only, would sell in the Collectors Community very well.
I hope some Mighty Book Publisher is on Time and get this done soon.
