    SS buckle real or fake?

    Hi,
Oppinions on this buckle it's unmarked and repaired and has very strange prongs of a type iv'e never seen before being one piece post and prongs made from sheet metal rapped around the bar the prongs being hollow backed and curved as seen ,any ideas?
The original catch as broken off and a rplacement attached futher to the edge the original postion can just be seen,it appears to have been black at one time but baddly cleaned sorry for the poor pics.
    All the best Merdock

A very early and somewhat crude fake SS and actually, probably a collectors item in it's own right.

            Regards,

            David

                Hi,
I could not find a mention of a fake like this in any book even my latest book by Nash.
                Thanks Merdock

It is an odd one and by any definition.

I am not quite sure as to whether this fake (correctly - fantasy) buckle appears within any of the buckle reference tomes, however and from memory, perhaps within Jack Angolias excellent second edition.

Sublimely ironic though that these crude and early fakes are now becoming somewhat collectible.

                    Regards,

                    David

Unfortunately this fake is published on P. Nash book
as an original one (p. 228)

And most of you know what I think of Nash's book.....

The above buckle is obviously a fake.

                          Hi,
This buckle is not mine but was offered to me from a old collection but was not to my liking just wanted confirmation of my suspictions.
                          Thanks Merdock
