    FJ Rostfrei mark

I have just acquired a Paul Weyersberg FJ gravity knife which is the take-down model. I am concerned that it does not have the Rostfrei indication on the blade. It is clearly marked with the Weyerberg logo. I have seen other Weyerberg knives that are usually marked with the Rostfrei. Is this a problem?

Can you post a pic of the maker mark and the whole blade?

I'm in the process of sending some photos of the blade and mark. This is my first time to send photos to this site and believe I need to reduce the size. My good wife will help me with this as soon as dinner is over. Hopefully I'll have them posted in a couple of hours. Thanks Tomt

When you take it down is the blade # the same in font as the rest of the parts?

                      FJ Rostfrei mark

This is my one and only FJ knife and I have never taken one completely apart. I have no trouble removing the upper sleeve while pushing the square button but am stumped from there as to how to completely remove the blade. I noticed that the #631 is stamped under the sleeve but the release lever and its attachment part are both stamped with the #11. Could you advise me how to do the complete teardown without damaging anything? Thanks Tomt

I discovered how the handle swings out of the way and exposed the blade. The number on the blade is also 631. The sleeve and the part it slides over are also marked with the 631.

Well, Tom I suspect it's quite fine. I'm going to take a shot here.
My guess, (just a guess) is that these later takedowns may not have been stainless, (rostfrei=rust free). As things progressed more and more strategic materials were diverted to essential war materials. Nickel, (an essential component in stainless) fell victim. This is evidenced by the conversion to plated zinc fittings on political daggers. Others may be able to show you other examples of this. Nice piece!

I'm with Lake on this one...I've probably never paid the proper amount of attention to the markings on these, as I only have one and it's a non-take-down example. From what I can see in the photos and the fact that all the numbers match I, too, think it's an okay piece.

                            Best,

                              Hi Tom,
I have 5 in my collection. In my opinion you have a fantastic original example! Mouth watering I would say! Check the other bolster at the rear where the spike swings out. You should also see a 631. You may need a flashlight. So, 4 pieces should be stamped with that number of 631. You are also correct that the lever and spring should match which yours does and most likely not match the 631. That is fine. That is one way to tell if the spring has been replaced. On my takedown both bolsters, end cap, and blade match. I have 4 non takedowns as well. The levers and spings match in number on each. Curiously enough, though hard to see without good light, each of my 4 non takedowns have a serial number on the bolster where the spike swings out different from the lever number. So, look for that as well on yours. Again, you have a fantastic example almost mint. Don't worry about the non rostfrei. I have seen examples of it without the that mark. Apparently, they tend to be earlier. Check out this thread for some additional information. Enjoy!
