As far as my feet will carry me-DVD

Has anyone seen the film "As far as my feet will carry me" or "So weit die füsse tragen" on DVD? I know it's available from German amazon for around 10Euros and was wondering if it has English subtitles?

    Simon,
If you click on the English "union jack" sign and then look near the bottom of next page it says "English, French" subtitles. I,m sure the dvd would be the same. Cheers, DAVID

      Hi David

I saw that but looking at the description on amazon nothing is mentioned about text. I ask because i remember that when Der Untergang came out one version had english subtitles and another didn't.

Looks like a good movie though. The story is just mindboggling to imagine.

        Hi Simon,

I have the (German, Code 2) DVD from EuroVideo. That DVD does not have ANY subtitles, not even German ones.
The story sounds great, the movie is unfortunately only average, at best.
        Cheers, Frank

Is that a story about a Fallschirmjäger?

I have this DVD, great story, "the chasing Russian Major" aspect differs a bit from the book though.
Soundwise, you can have the dialogue in English or Deutsch.
It has a full range of subtitles too, you can have them "off" as well

The release by Euro-Video that I just got is - like Frank wrote - in German only.

Therefore, Mr Jägermarty, please help the non-Germanics here by explaining which version you have of the movie and where to buy it.

I have just seen the opening minutes and it looks just great There´s also a lot of extra stuff on the 2nd disc incl a comparison with the 1959-made movie.

                Cheerio,

                Lars

                  my review

                  Dear WWII film buffs,

Well, I give the 2001-made film five out of five thumbs:

The acting, the attention to details, the story itself - everything top-notch according to yours truly. This film ranks in the same division as "Das Boot" and "Der Untergang" if you ask me.

A pity only that there are so few scenes taking place during WWII!

Perhaps I will think less of the film once I´ve read the book, but... Until then this is my honest impression of the film.

I have in vain searched the web for English-subtitled DVD´s. Well, there ARE such - on E-bay (Asian-made) and Asian-DVD websites - but it seems you can´t yet get it in a regular DVD-store, even on the web.

I will write to the people responsible for the film´s website and seek an explanation from them.

I have also started a thread about the REAL Clemes Forell here:

                    English

                    Dear film-buffs,

I just got a reply from Cine-International in Germany, the main distributor of the film.

They confirm that there exists (February 2006) only one DVD-version with English subtitles: in Asia. Its the Chinese-market DVD.

So, today you can only get that DVD-version from Asian DVD-dealers and E-bay auctions.

I find this utterly strange for such a large quality production.

But, if you understand German there is no problem! You can get the film real cheap at www.amazon.de

Thanks for the info Lars. I have now had a good search around and have found a decent European site that does the version w/ English subtitles. It is for the asian market but at least you can safely get it here and for a decent price with free delivery. Here is the link. I have just ordered one.

Finally got round to watching the film today (with English subtitles) and can give it a thumbs up. Good all round film, fascinating story and good acting performances. Well worth the low cost to buy.
