Purchasing A Fallschirmjager / Paratrooper Gravity Knife

Can someone please direct me to a reputable source for purchasing nice unmessed with Fallschirmjager gravity knives? Type does not matter. I have seen too many fakes and don't want to take chances on the investment!
    Thanks to all!

          Hey Bob-

I took a look at it. Very nice piece. I think I answered my own question which is that I have a first pattern that cannot be easily opened and repaired.

            Hi Alex!
Well, if you have a silver finished model you will not be able to take it apart. If you have a bluedd model or one that was blued, look for the square block at the top. Depres it and the top of the knife will slide off. The rest will make sense then.
If you need more help or want to send me a picture, feel free.
            Best Wishes,
            Bob

Always helpful! Thanks Bob! Nice site too! I will snap a shot off and send to you. It came with a nice vet grouping. You can judge the condition and let me know. I like it mainly because I know where it came from!

              Cheers

Can I just point out (and this is written time and time again) they are NOT only Fallschirmjäger knives. That is a dealer myth to boost the prices. They were standard issue Luftwaffe kit, given to ALL flight crews, other units and of course Fallschirmjäger. So when you add up the numbers produced they are not that rare. They were even issued to Luftwaffe Flakhelferin units.

How to tell the repro GRAVITY KNIVES from the real Takedowns.

I had a fellow yesterday try to sell me a SMF Takedown para for 500 bones. It would have been a good buy.

The only original part was the blade. It took me 1 sec to realize it was one of the repro Takedowns

Here is how you can tell

                      1. the repros have brass rivets that hold the wood on. ALL original have steel

                      2. The repro dont have any numbers on end cap, body or blade should be a 3 digit number. If it looks like "BUBBA" did it with a number punch then walk away...

                      3. The repro paras metal pieces are not finished very well.. After you have held a few good ones you can see the differences quickly.

repro para sell for about 100, original nice takdowns are around 800-1200

                      dont get burned... Good hunting.

Jumper, awesome clear-cut points to note on a purchase.
Does this rule also apply to type1 gravity knives as well?

                          Glad to help...

I would say YES... Though I have never seen a REPRO early NON takedown.

About 3-4 years ago I started seeing the Takedowns on the street.. even bought one to see the differences.. NIGHT AND DAY.. when you have an original next to it.

Here are a few pics of some of mine..

Note the very clean edges to the end cap...the professionally stamped numbers
