7 wheeler saga - who is behind them?

    Hi Guys,
As Don pointed out we never really got a thread dedicated to the 7 wheelers. These cool looking badges are one my favorite PAB’s. Let’s strat discussion about them and maybe we can learn something together. I guess the most important question to ask about them is: are all these 7 wheelers made by one manufacturer or maybe few companies were making them? It is easy to recognize different “grass patterns” but of course there is many common points as well including 7th wheel on them of course. So let’s talk about the 7 wheelers gentleman’s!

It's been a while since I posted these. At that time, I don't think that they were attributed to a maker.

What do they look like at this point in time, to the experts? Daisys? Maker?

                Dear Robert,

As far as I'm concerned two makers were involved here and 1 designer.

The badges you posted are IMO the earliest 1 pattern 7 wheelers. This conclusion is based upon the fact that only the 1 pattern exists as a buntmetall variant. As you can clearly see on the badges you posted the hollow zinker came before the solid zinker. The die probably was worn out a little resulting in the diamond on the rock that almost disappeared. For the production of the solid zinkers the die was re-worked and this is most noticable on the eagles claws that received a very unique strip pattern. A pattern that even on the early badges was never that obvious.

The second pattern 7 wheeler only exists as a hollow and a solid zinker. Certainly the hardware used on the solid badge is unique and won't be found on the first pattern. If both badges where made by one and the same company I would expect to see the hardware used on them.
