    U Boat Badge Questions

Has anyone seen a zinc U-Boat badge with the maker's mark FL in an oval?

Do all U-Boat badges have 4 feathers in the horizontal upper wing sections?

Are there original stamped, hollow back WWII U-Boat badges?

    Thank you,
    Bob Hritz

    Very interesting Bob.

Ok, you have my full attention. Post the rest of that badge as well, don´t keep us on a strain here

Never seen anything like that before.

Don´t throw away your fake WB´s! Get in touch with me.
I collect them for reference purposes for the benefit of the hobby (for the right "fake" price of course).

With it's hollow twin. The hollow badge has the nickle hinge and catch. Same die details but hollow stamped brass. I have never seen another of either of these, so just don't know what to think.

Can you do one of the front in the size and quality of your first pic Bob?
It looks nice but also one I have never seen before.
Whole pic of the back as well please.

                  Dear Bob,

As always, very, very interesting and very, very weird. I cannot say that I do not like them. Materials, finish, setup and quality look believable, especially on the massive one.
                  Cheers, Frank

                    Hello Frank,

Thanks for the comments. I have had them for decades, but that means nothing. They are the only two I have seen since I started collecting, in the mid 1960's. I had expected much more harsh comments, on their origanality.

                      Like Frank says,

they look very believable although I have always been negative on hollow KM badges. The solid one I would buy if I saw it, nice detail.

                        Hello Skip,

I have seen hollow fakes, but completely different pattern and the horrible pin with a brass catch that was 3 times wider than necessary. I have never seen another hollow U-Boat I would add to my collection.

What strikes me is that these two are from the same maker. Who and when are the questions. I believe wartime, but my opinion is prejudiced in the fact that I bought them because I believed they were authentic.

I must be nuts to have collected all these variations, but that is what has interested me in my collecting focus. A better 'investment' would have been mint Schwerin U-boat badges.

Hi Bob have to say not that keen on the hollow backed examples though i do know that Detlev and Weistz have sold an example of one, but if my memory serves me right not with that set up. Weistz might still have one on his site if you want to check it out but i know longer have excess. As for the solid looks convincing. All the best

                            Hi Bob,

Very interesting and design wise the best eagle I have ever seen on a U-Boat. Although I have never seen the solid variant I like it vry much.

I think you might find this interesting, I always kept this brother of your hollow badge in my files. So your badge isn't alone out there

Don't remember who these pics belong to so I hope it's not a problem that I post them here for comparison.

PS: the halfway excepted hollow U-Boat features the Hymmen design if i'm not mistaken.
