Rarer than a DE standard ...

... Fascist Italian standard of the "Comando Generale" of the
    Gioventù Italiana del Littorio

    Lot #4124 Auction Hammer price € 34,000
18 Nov 2019 Sale price with HH commission = 42.5K Euros.
    Description

"Standard pole of gilt iron and die-cast zinc, respectively, fashioned of several pieces
in Roman antique style and consisting of an eagle above a fasces on top, underneath
it two cross bars for the two standard cloths, a fasces within a laurel wreath with
applied "M" for Mussolini and decorative elements such as a fortress with crenellations,
a canopy above two solar discs and a stylised galley. Minor damage and flaws due to
age and the nature of the material.
The two standard cloths on the obverse made of black ribbed silk with raised gold
embroidery "P.N.F. - G.I.L. - Comando Generale", the reverse made of yellow and
wine-red ribbed silk (one flaw), at the bottom with fringes of gold bullion. Dimensions
of the standard cloths 19 x 27.5 cm each. Overall height of the standard 202 cm.
Comes with the booklet "P.N.F. Gioventù Italiana del Littorio - Accadémie Collegi
Scuole", 1940/41, with depiction of three standards of the "Comando Generale"
on the inside of the front cover.
Of utmost rarity; no more than a handful of these standards of the "Comando
Generale" of the G.I.L. have probably existed.
The G.I.L. was established in 1937 from the Opera Nazionale Balilla as a youth
organisation (equivalent to the German Hitler Youth).

                    Hello Mike:
The Italian big-M standard is made of hollow
metal parts, like the NSDAP DE top and box.

... the S.F. junk store owner told me that he got
the standard from a U.S. G.I. soldier who found
it during the liberation of Rome, and brought it
back to the USA in his duffle bag. So indeed
even in the 1970's it was a great deal for $100.

That is so cool, it blows my mind! I remember the first book I ever read about Mussolini, it was entitled :The Saw Dust Caesar when I was in junior high school. What fascinated me was his invocation of Imperial Rome.
