    Non-magnetic Cholm shield opinion

I recently acquired this non-magnetic Cholm shield.
I would like to hear your opinion on this shield.

    Thanks,
    Pascal

The photo looks very similar to a classic shield.
Pascal, do you have the opportunity to take larger photos of this shield? There should be water signs.

Here are some close-ups of the shield. Please let me know if you need pictures of a some specific area.

Pascal thank you for new photos!
When compared to the Cholm steel shield, the non-magnetic shield has both great similarities and some small differences. The main difference, is the higher and clearer relief of the shield itself.
I have two assumptions. The first suggestion is that it may be the first, trial version of the Сholm shield. The second assumption is the postwar stamping of the shield on the original equipment.

The clearer relief (which is very noticeable) and the very small differences could well be a result of the different material and a fresh die. I like it and lean towards it being an original.

              Thanks Stive. Interesting thoughts.
The shield is indeed highly detailed. It lack however some typical die flaws which the official awarded magnetic Cholm shield has. This rules (IMO) out a postwar stamping with the original die. It shows however the hairline die flaw at 5 o'clock at the swastika which can also seen on the magnetic shield.

On further examination I discovered that the backing cloth was glued with modern glue.
So I did what I always suggested one never should do and that is to remove the backing. I was able to remove the backing without doing any damage to the backing plate, the cloth and the shield itself. It is hard for me to tell if the cloth period made or not. The backing plate itself looks to me not period made.

The shield itself looks like a nicely die struck shield with the correct prongs at the correct place.

Both pictures - 100% symmetrcal ! All control points match.
I think, this shield was made with use original shield. But this shield not from original matrix !

                      Sure Pitomnik.
As said before I don't think the back plate is original.

Pascal, thank you for the picture of the back of the shield!
It is now possible to compare the reverse side of the magnetic and non-magnetic shields.
The comparison shows the different location of the clips and the different edges of the stamps.
Magnetic shield has finishing shiny coating made by galvanic or chemical method. The non-magnetic shield has no finishing coating at all. The alloy of metal from which the non-magnetic shield is made is not similar to German zinc alloys.
By all facts, I do lean to the version of postwar production of the non-magnetic Cholm shield, possibly using original equipment.

                            For "Fe + Cu"(classic shield) - you need a zinc alloy .
In the case of "Cu + Cu" - you can use any alloy, even simple tin.

                              Thank you guys.
What do you make of the top of the shield?
