Hi Ingo,
Sorry for the delay in response, but I'm just not comfortable with this piece. I was waiting to see what others might add which would push me either one way or the other...but nothing yet. The eagle and button appear to be added at a later date; they're not placed as they should be, IMO. The tresse and the piping are also not attached as they should be, IMO. Is this even an SA GF/OGF tress pattern...I'm not sure. Is there an RZM tag under the liner?
The whole piece just puts me off...sorry but that's how I feel...

Thanks, Br. James, for your reply!
I must say that I like the kepi. It’s a kepi for a Standartenführer with the correct small tresse. Just wanted to get some opinions on it.
I think it’s illustrated in the book of Saris & Smith „Headgear of Hitler‘s Germany, Vol. 3“.
It was offered yesterday at an auction. I was bidding on it, but unfortunately I was outbid and it sold slightly above my limit price. So congrats to the new owner

I bid on this too, although it went for significantly more ($2,125.00 with the auction premium) than I was willing to pay.
As Br. James observes, the eagle and button appear to be later additions, and to me the application looks 'sloppy'.
On the other hand, I know it was once owned by a very knowledgeable and advanced political/SA collector, and there is a red wool top under the current gruppe color. It seem unlikely a faker would add that touch.

The Standartenführer Tresse looks good from these photos, and that is not easy to find. I was concerned because of what looks like creases to the top in front as though the top oval was sewn to the sides incorrectly. If it's an original Standartenführer kepi, that perhaps was updated in 1937 with the new eagle (which was too tall to fit correctly because of the low cut of the top), IMO that was a very fair price (depending on the buyer's commission percentage). Original kepis with Tresse originally applied are few and far between.

30% commission is higher than I'm used to paying, but I think the total price was not unfair for a scarce kepi. The wrinkles in the top could be due to the way it fit on the original wearer's head but I couldn't tell if it had been resewn or played with in some way. However, since the top color band was period overlaid, it's not really disturbing. I should have paid more attention to it!
