Hello Luft lads and other interested,
We had a long thread about the Luftwaffe Summer Eagle
and I’d like to go through some details again.
This is not to prove anything for we don’t have the final
answer in this, but just some knowledgeable things till now.
First of all some dimensions Mike K and Ralph Heinz provided:
A DRGM:
width - 84.00 mm
height from top of eagles body (between the wings) to the tip of the swas - 32.30 mm
swas width (left to right) - 16.55
max thickness (eagles chest) - ~5.1 mm
swas thickness - 2.66 mm
weight - 9.47 g.
die-struck eagle.
"big A":
width - 84.00 mm
height from top of eagles body (between the wings) to the tip of the swas - 32.00 mm
swas width - 16.54
max thickness (eagles chest) - ~5.3 mm
swas thickness (left to right) - 2.70 mm
weight - 9.44 g.
die-struck eagle.
"big A" zink eagle:
width - 84.50 mm
height from top of eagles body (between the wings) to the tip of the swas - 32.40 mm
swas width - 16.90
weight not available.
die-struck eagle.
"big A-fake":
width -82.00 mm
all other measurements smaller than the "big A"
weight not available but heavier than the "big A"
cast eagle.
Drooptail eagle - tombak/plated.
Width - 89.00 mm
Weight not available.
die-struck eagle.
It’s striking the D.R.G.M. and big A are pretty close in weight and dimensions,
same material, have same hinge and ?-catch and are both die-struck pieces.
We only found the D.R.G.M. eagle in the Assmann catalogue till now,
maybe Assmann had a second die with the big A.
Both eagles are different, the D.R.G.M. has nicer detail.
The zink big A might be made with a adjusted D.R.G.M.die.
One collector stated one big A came original on a jacket.
One wellknown dealer stated the big A’s to be good, although fakes exist,
but in comparison the fake will be detected from the real one.
Again I’ll post pictures of the "questionable" big A,the big A-fake,the zink big A and a stunning
Drooptail eagle, probably the one we also see in the Assmann catalogue.
The Drooptail is from the proud owner Ralph Heinz.
People with other info are wellcome, maybe other types of eagles ???
Regards,
Jos.
