new posts

Well, here it is, New Year's Eve. I'm getting ready to take a little nap, since it might be a looooong night at work, but wanted to make a couple additions to this thread as the last posts for 2005.

This isn't rare, but is a nice 'half set' for a Major of the 12th Infantry Regiment.

The Beamte ranks will drive 'ya nuts. This set is for a Kriegsverwaltungsbeamte '39 - '41 (War Administration Official). In '41 this changed to a Militarverwaltungsbeamte (Military Administration Official). From '39 - '40 the rank was Oberkriegsverwaltungsrat. Changed to Kriegsverwaltungsoberrat in '40 to '41. In '41 it was changed again to Militarverwaltungsoberrat. The collar tabs are indicitive of the High Grade Career. Heer rank of Oberstleutnant (Lieutenant Colonel). This branch served in the occupied Eastern Territory as administrators and in control of the domestic economy.

I may have posted this before, but here's an example of the insignia above on a uniform.

This is an interesting board. The devices - Fp 3 - are for the Fortress Engineer Corps (Inspectorate of Eastern and Western Fortresses), Fortress Engineer Staff. This configuaration was used from 1939 on.

The board originally had orange-red waffenfarbe. The black was later added over it. The 'Fp' without a number on black, orange red, or lemon yellow indicates supplementary officers of the Corps of Fortress Engineers. Have seen other examples of boards having a new color added. Appears that the owner re-covered the boards when he was transfered. Not common, but I have seen other original examples where this was done. Waste not, want not.

This set is for a Beamte Stabsapotheker (Captain of Pharmacists). The gold serrated collar tab bars indicate that the Official is of the High Career.

I just got this nice worn example from another W-A member off of the e-stand. The red secondary color is not real common and was used by several branches. I think the original owner was probably a member of the Wehrkreigsverwaltung und Intendantur (Military Area Administration and Intendant's Service), but could also have been with the Agricultural Service. (Angolia also lists the Artillery Measuring Service and the Sound Ranging Service as unconfirmed possibilities.)

Just one photo to add this time. Still have a lot of stuff to show, but most of what remains has been framed, so I have to take it all apart to photograph it. Living on the other side of the Continental Divide from the bunker doesn't help either.

Anyway, both these patches are Richtkanonier-Abzeichen (Gunner's Badges). The patch on the right is the common 2nd pattern. The one on the left is a rare 1st pattern that was instituted 03 Jun 36. It was replaced by the second pattern 16 Dec 36.

Thought I'd post photos of the various marksmanship lanyard shields. Nothing too rare here, but it might come in helpful for someone to use as a reference.

There were 12 grades that were defined by three different shields and the addition of up to three acorns/shells. And, just to complicate things a bit, there were two different shields used for the lowest grade. This photo is of the first pattern, used from 1936 to 1939.

Here's the new shield for basic Grade 1-4 lanyards introduced in January 1939.

The shield for the middle 4 grades. Longer swords and wider wreath.

And the shield for Grades 9-12. Identical to Grades 5-8 except that the shield is gold. Notice too that the 'balls' or knots are also gold.
