Thank you all for the discussion. This will for sure be offered with a VERY low starting bid of $200 or something, so the market can decide what it should sell for, with all sides represented in the description. I wish I could make news with this being a vet piece, but it is not ... comes out of an older collection. That is all.

Just send a copy of this thread to the consignor (and tell him/her I'll pay $300 for it right now so they don't have to wait.)

Haha. I have no idea what it will fetch, but it will be a chance for someone to pick one up for whatever the market price, without spin, turns out to be.

What is the other side? Hinting that is might be possibly a pre May 1945 cross? That has no factual substance at all at this point in time and would be very misleading and I would see it as as purely money-making statement - not one that has any background in research.

I think your statement: "there is no evidence that this is original" is accurate. The description will in NO way try to "spin" it to someone unaware. I'm sure one of the collectors here will buy it with both eyes open, for whatever they end up wanting to pay. I thought I was clear on this?

Unfortunately, I must reject this statement.

Money may be the motivating factor for some people, but not for all.

And with that, I will just say that time will tell.........

                Gentry,

let me clarify my last statement! Collecting for genuine research like you or others do was not meant by my statement. I know you don't look at the monetary aspect of it!

I meant that if descriptions like "Some believe them to be pre-May 1945" or such is put into a description at an auction or a dealer site at this point in time it is not based on factual research and serves only to drive the price up, i.e. for monetary reasons.

That's what I meant and it was strictly directed at the auction of this piece!

There will be no 'dealer spin' on this one. In fact, I will just post this thread on the auction description

I wouldn't mind paying 200$ for this one, as I would serve as a really nice space filler for me.
I am in no way even close to be able to afford a genuine Rk at this point in time, so to be able to "show" such a nice looking cross (at that price) would be nice.

                      Just my 2 cent.

Well, it'll be in the January auction, and we'll see what it brings, fairly and accurately described, with a link to this thread.

                            Rk

Weight of this cross is 26.7 grams, according to Vera, just a little to add to this piece.

I hope I've been as accurate and "non-spin" as possible, in the listing. Whatever it goes for in the end, I think, will be instructive. Void of sales spin and innuendo, I'm sure collectors who own them will be happy to learn what this market price is. The owner understands all the issues, has read this thread, and is happy to let the auction run its course.
