Captured King Tiger Photo - Got More?

Got this photo from the daughter of 16th Inf Rgt 1st Inf Div. She has kept most of his personal stuff, but has thrown me a few bones. Extra photos of him going across Tunisia, Sicily, France and here in Belgium 1944. Note soldier climbing inside tank.

Anybody have more original photos of captured tanks?

This is Tiger II '121' of sSS PzAbt 101. Lost some time in Aug/Sept 1944.
It was later rolled over into the field on its right and recovered in December 1944. Shipped back to The US it was on display for years. Now it is back in Germany and on display at Munster.

Hi Michael - Got your PM. Send me your email and I will send a higher quality photo so it can be posted on your website as a reference. You have my permission, just give me photo credit.

Is this the first photo of this panzer before it was rolled over?

        Hey Jeff,

Nice pic of King Tiger #121. I guess you now have the earliest photo of that Tiger II. Did you see my thread on the photo forum about knocked out German Panzers and equipment..."Through the eyes of GI's - Knocked out German Armor" Thanks for sharing that photo...keep me in mind if you decide to part with it. - Bill

it is the only 'clear' pic of it before it was pushed off the road. Some time ago I saw a pic of it in much the same position taken from one of the early Unit Histories published just after the war. It is nowhere as good an illustration as this.
SS 101(501) had its 1st kp. re-equiped with these Tiger II's in early August. All but one were lost by 5/9/44. TIC2 says this Tiger ran out of fuel on the road 'near La Capelle' and was blown up by the crew (note missing muzzle brake).
It is therefore not a 'Bulge' Tiger. La Capelle is on the intersection of the N2 and N43 in Northern France. The N2 is the road leaving Mons in Belgium (as the N6) heading down to Reims. The N43 heads south-east out of Cambrai towards Sedan.

Hi! I was wondering, do any of you have an Original WWII period Colored Pic of a King Tiger (or even a Tiger I)? It's just that most of the period pics I see are often Black & White and I want to see the Tiger's actual color while it was being used during the war Also, I think that the museum tanks were already repainted. (or maybe not all of them?)

            Thanks!!

              Colour Tiger? Try this one:

              http://www.lg-c.dk/uploads/tigercolour0002.jpg

There is a famous Tiger II colour pic taken indoors at Aberdeen but I think it will be revealed pretty soon that that is also a repaint.

It must be close to Belgium, because in the photo album the GI labeled it from Belgium. He was a kid, so how would he know?

Hi Michael, thanks for the pic!!! (and its even on the run )

But I was wondering, what is that colored speck on the left side, just below the turret? It looks to me like a runner in the distance with yellow cap, a blue shirt with white number and wearing neon green shoes? (Unless it's just dirt )

Now that I've seen a colored Tiger 1, hopefully someone has WWII colored pics of the King Tiger (hopefully someone has )

This is a toy hanging from the gun barrel. It seems it was a famous pre-war German cartoon character who was this Units mascot.

Hi Michael, many thanks for the info!!!
I never knew Germans also used mascots, I thought only Americans used/had them. (and I first thought it was a runner in the background that made me suspect the pic could be a re-enactment )

This 'mascot' was a famous Brothers Grimm character Hans Im Gluck (Lucky Hans) He is carrying a goose under his arm.
