    Dirk Trautsch

    Name of WAF collector, membership level and known as on the WAF: Dirk Trautsch from Germany who joined the forum in January 2006. He was an association member and was known on the forum with the user name AR-11. He passed away on 24 November 2015.

    Collecting interests: Dirk did not have any collecting interest per se. He assisted the DDR collecting community from his previous professional military background. During the Cold War Dirk was a NVA officer in an artillery unit in the 1980s and served in the East German military until the end of the Cold War. Since joining this forum in 2006 he parted his knowledge without hesitation to others who were collecting in the East German militaria field.

      i did not knew Dirk,

      but he was born in the same year as me (1963), match to young,,,

              Shocking to hear this and sad .Dirk was a good man .both on the fourm and through pm's he was a big help sharing information. RIP

                Dirk was a good friend, he will be missed. Ralph and I invited him on Fort Lee, Virginia in 2010, where we had a small gathering of members from this forum to talk to Dirk about his experiences in the NVA. Afterward we toured the base and he was fascinated by being able to visit a military installation of his former adversary.

                            Dirk was a close personal friend. After his visit, he and I stayed in touch until the end. He had terminal cancer. He was very brave all the way to the end.
                            He not only will be missed here on the forum, but for those of us that were fortunate to be blessed with the opportunity to visit with him in person, we have lost a very unique individual. Dirk was an extremely kind and gentle man, and was always willing to help out those here on the forum, with any and all questions they had regarding their collecting interests.
                            I've sent a condolence message to his wife and two sons.
                            I will very much miss Dirk, and our occasional email correspondence back and forth, which usually was just about work and our daily struggles as we went about our lives.
