Interesting. It is a Roman W and a Roman 5.

A Fraktur W and Roman 5 would be Wehrkreis 5 ( Württemberg und Baden ) Verwaltung. A Roman W along would be Wachbtl Wien. What do the insignia experts say?

      Wehrersatzdienststellen V

      Hi,

I think it is Wehrersatzdienststellen V which would be Recruiting office in Wehrkreis V (Elsass, Baden and Württemberg) with headquarters in Stuttgart. That would also explain the age of the Gefreiter that I believe to be a veteran from the first world war (I suspect that the feldspange might be a EK2 from WW1 but I'm not sure).

ok you guys are really going to love this.

              first the story

About 10 years ago a old friend of mine living in Berlin visited a local flea market. He knew I collected old color slides. He sent me an email that he found 3 old german slides showing a soldier and his girlfriend for 5 euros.

Two weeks later these 3 images came in the post........
I asked if there were any more from the flea market seller but my friend said no.. just these 3.... imagine what else this man photographed in colour......

This is the first time I have shown these 3 photos from my slide collection and I have to admit, they are some of my absolute favourites

              Enjoy !

Nice photos Ian! He's an NCO. SS-Oberscharführer (Sgt. 1st Class).
Also it looks like the cyphers on his shoulder boards and his cufftitle are from the 1st SS LAH.

happy you like them guys I really love these color shots

                      here is some thing different:

BEFORE and AFTER. Sometimes these old color slides are found in a very bad state and need a lot of TLC to bring them back to their original glory. Here is a nice example of a color slide (agfacolor) that was taken by a german soldier in Paris France 1940. The slide was badly stored, exposed to too much heat over the years.. (warm summers and attic are not a good combination for slides) and with some hard work... this is the result !
                      Enjoy. Ian

have a nice weekend guys !
