      This may be more evidence for a late war use of copper undercoating. It's described by the vendor as "Nicht fertig gestelltes Marine-Artillerie-Kriegsabzeichen aus einer Lüdenscheider Ordensfabrik", and looks like it might be a zinc S&L with a deteriorating copper flash coating that was never finished?

      I don't know anything more about the story, but it sounds like wartime leftovers persisted for many decades.
