    "Propaganda"-Piped LW EM/NCO Visor

Shea has this for sale on his site, and lists it as being for Propaganda.

Hat is undoubtedly original. However, it looks to me like the piping simply matches the wool of the body of the cap like the so-called WH "Penal" visors.

I would say Luftwaffe penal if there were such a thing, definitely not propaganda. Interesting visor. Jacques

The cap would make sense as an unpiped Deutscher Luftsportverband (DLV) visor...(and would have had different insignia, so pre LW clandestine period)
          BUT
ofcourse the 1937 issue date does not work for it to be DLV period...
and pre-war penal is also doubtful...War time date with penal explanation makes more sense to me...
No doubt its real, very intriguing!

Without a doubt, Penal. It was MOST likely prewar Penal.

Pre War, penal was like pulling duty in the brig. They had the specific gray insignia. Part of their brig time was uniform inspections and lots of drill. As the war started, the special insignia fell by the wasteside, and those placed in Penal units were simply stripped of insignia. Of course, the daily routine of a wartime penal unit enrollee was much different than those who were in it pre war.

LW Propaganda as far as I know would be classified under Signals and wear the light brown piping.

From what I have seen, a majority were Sonderfuhrer Officials, brought in for aK status, as broadcast media and publishing specialties. These had the Dark Green Administrative branch color.

I guess that is plausible than...doing brig time for infractions... and issued altered uniforms during peace time...OK.
I was thinking penal to be more of a war time thing (entire units involved, like mine clearing duties...) I understand the difference now!
Its a cool cap! Without the date it would have been identified as DLV with altered (later) insignia!
